The Oakdene Park Community Garden Association of Kentville/Obsitquetchk is a volunteer-led, community-driven association rooted in Oakdene Park. Established in 2023 as a Town of Kentville program by the then Neighbourhood Outreach Program Coordinator, Roxy Peterson, the Association emerged through extensive community engagement to create a welcoming, inclusive growing space for people of all backgrounds and abilities. Prior to its formation, there had been two unsuccessful attempts to establish an organized garden group, leaving the existing garden beds unused and deteriorating for several years. Since its establishment, the Association has grown rapidly into a community hub focused on food access, learning, inclusion, and connection. Its work now includes seasonal programming, volunteer engagement, and partnerships with local organizations, with a strong emphasis on accessibility, barrier removal, and food-security initiatives such as the Phood Gro Program. Today, the Association is a registered not-for-profit committed to building inclusive, resilient, community-based food systems in Kentville/Obsitquetchk.
